How Our Church Is Governed
First Church is governed by a Standing Committee, congregational meetings,
and church bylaws. The Standing Committee establishes other committees of the
church, including building use, canvass, finance, membership, property and
grounds, social justice, and religious education. We also have a Board of
Trustees that maintains our church endowment.
New members join our congregation by signing our church membership book, which
dates from the 1880's, and affirming our church covenant or bond of fellowship:
In the love of truth, and in the spirit of Jesus, we unite for the worship of
God and service of humanity. They are then voted upon, as a formality, by the
Standing Committee.
